The Baby Bear's Bed
Here is the thing – Goldilocks ended up in the baby bears bed – all comfortable and supremely fitting. Mummy and daddy’s beds just weren’t right – but the baby bear’s bed – well that was just perfect thank you very much……Its like me and “classical” music – I have no tradition, no early understanding of cadence – never weaned on counterpoint, brought up thankfully on the so called trash end of culture – and as such “classical” music is my baby bears bed – its just “right”.. …but has never been and probably never be – “mine”.
Which is where Icebreaker comes in – remembering those mental York days when it all started – waiting a few years and then being asked to write a piece where my loves and their style of playing meshed together – sometimes its very hard writing for your friends.
This piece was the result.
The Baby Bears Bed was given its premiere in 2003 at the Vienna Gallery of Modern Art and given its British premiere later that year at The Warehouse London as part of the 2003 Cutting Edge tour. It has been recorded by Icebreaker on “Extraction” / between the lines btl 018 / EFA 101 88-2.
